Jesus...The Reason for Everything

During the Christmas season we hear that 'Jesus is the Reason for the Season' repeated often. While this is true, the reality is that Jesus is the 'Reason' for ALL seasons.
The Bible tells us that, were it not for Jesus, there would be nothing to celebrate, in fact, there would be nothing at all. Colossians 1:15-20 (ESV) contains several facts about Jesus that reveal much.

"He is the image of the invisible God..." Jesus is God in human flesh. In John 14:9 Jesus told Philip that to see Him [Jesus] is to see God.
Not only that but, "by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authoritiesall things were created through him..." The Bible, in various places, attributes creation to God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
This is another witness to Jesus being God. The mystery of the Trinity...three in one.

"...and for him." It is a difficult concept for many to grasp, but the universe was not created specifically for our pleasure. We are not the center of the universe. God created the universe because He wanted to. He is the center of the universe. He is the reason for everything.

"He is before all things and in him all things hold together." Not only did He create everything, but He also sustains everything. If Jesus was not supplying everything with the power and permission to exist, everything would simply cease to be.

Many make much of the statement that "Jesus wasn't a Christian". This is meant to be an jab at Christians and to attempt to disassociate Christ with Christianity. However, this passage reveals that Jesus was the first, the foremost, and the leader, of the group of Christians known as the church. "And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent." He is our leader, we follow Him, we are known as "Christians" because we follow Christ.

This passage also tells us that God, through Jesus death on the cross, made it possible for us to have a saving relationship with Him. A relationship that forgives our sins and enables us to live the life we are really meant to live. "For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross."

This Christmas, take out your Bible, pray God would speak to you, read Colossians 1:15-20, and let it inspire in you the Spirit of Christmas, honoring Jesus Christ with your life, all year long.

Merry Christmas!!!!
